How can a hotel offer phone charging to guests?

A hotel can offer phone charging by placing a self-service power bank rental station at reception, in the lobby or in covered common areas. Guests tap a contactless card, take a charged power bank and keep using their phone, without going back to the room or waiting at the desk.

In short

  • The usual options are chargers lent at reception, charging points in common areas, charging lockers and power bank rental stations.
  • With a rental station, guests serve themselves: no app, no registration, a contactless card or phone wallet is enough.
  • The hotel provides a visible spot and a power outlet. Staff do not handle phones, cards or payments.
  • The commercial setup is defined in each proposal, and the hotel shares in the rental revenue.

What are the options for phone charging in a hotel?

Most hotels already do something about dead phones. The common options are:

  • Chargers lent at reception. Simple to start, but every loan is a small task for the desk team, and someone has to keep track of who has which cable.
  • Charging points in common areas. Sockets or cables in the lobby or the bar. The guest has to stay next to the socket while the phone charges.
  • Charging lockers. The guest leaves the phone in a locked compartment and collects it later. This works when guests are happy to be without their phone for a while.
  • Power bank rental stations. The guest takes a charged power bank, keeps the phone in hand and returns the power bank at any station.

Which one fits depends on how your guests move around the property. If they spend long stretches away from their room, in the lobby, at breakfast, at the bar or on their way out for the day, a power bank they can carry is usually the more useful option. We compare the two self-service options in charging lockers vs power bank rental stations.

How does power bank rental work for hotel guests?

It takes three steps:

  1. Tap. The guest taps a contactless card, Apple Pay or Google Pay on the station.
  2. Take. A charged power bank unlocks. It has two built-in cables, USB-C and iPhone, so guests do not need to bring their own.
  3. Return. The guest uses it in the room or in common areas and returns it at any station in the hotel.

There is nothing to download and no account to create. That matters, because a guest whose phone is already dead cannot install an app or scan a code. Each power bank gives up to a full charge, and at least 80% for any phone, with fast charging at up to 20 W through either cable.

The price is shown on the station screen before the guest confirms, together with the daily maximum and the hold. When the guest taps, a temporary hold is placed on the card, not a charge. On return, only the rental time is charged and the rest of the hold is released.

Where should a hotel put a charging station?

Reception, the lobby, the breakfast room and covered common areas are the usual spots. Each station needs a permanent power connection and clear visibility for guests. MasBattery stations are always installed indoors or under cover, so the electronics stay in the shade and the power bank is what travels with the guest.

On a larger property, stations in more than one place work better than a single point: guests pick up a power bank near where they are and return it near where they are going. Your team chooses the spots with us before installation.

What does the hotel need to provide?

A visible spot for guests and a power outlet. MasBattery helps with installation, maintenance and technical support, with the exact scope set out in your proposal.

Your team does not charge phones behind the desk, lend cables or take payments: guests rent and return the power banks themselves. For your operations and safety team, stations and power banks are CE-certified, UN38.3-compliant for transport and registered with RII-AEE in Spain. Support runs on WhatsApp in Spanish and English.

Do guests need an app?

No. No app and no registration: guests tap a contactless card and take a power bank. The rental is linked to the card or phone wallet they pay with, so there is nothing to scan and nothing to sign up for.

What happens if a guest does not return the power bank?

Guests return the power bank at any station. If it is not returned within the period shown on the station screen at the start of the rental, the replacement cost shown there is charged and the power bank is the guest's to keep. Issues and unreturned power banks are handled with MasBattery support, as set out in your proposal, so the front desk does not have to chase anyone.

How much does it cost the hotel?

The commercial model is tailored to the size and operation of each hotel. The commercial setup, including installation, maintenance and support, is defined in each proposal, and the hotel shares in the rental revenue. Stations can also carry your hotel's branding. How a revenue-share power bank rental works explains the model step by step.

How does a hotel get started?

Send us three things: the number of rooms, where you would like the stations, and a contact person at the hotel. We reply within one working day. MasBattery has had stations at a water park and a theme park on the Costa Blanca since August 2026.
